OCEANS' 13 MTS/IEEE San Diego, CA - Call for abstracts - due May 3rd

The OCEANS ’13 MTS/IEEE San Diego committee invites you to beautiful San Diego to participate in the world’s most diverse and prestigious conference and exposition regarding our most critical resource—the oceans. This will be the 7th time the OCEANS conference has come to San Diego. The team that orchestrated the OCEANS ’03 San Diego conference, the largest OCEANS conference to date—has returned to raise the bar even higher. The ’03 conference, which was a cornerstone of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Centennial, had a total event attendance of 5,400, the exhibition included 301 booths and the technical program exceeded 800 excellent presentations. That international audience, from 46 countries, helped us establish the theme for the OCEANS ’13 conference—An Ocean in Common.

Singapore AUV Challenge a success

The Singapore AUV Challenge sponsored by the Singapore Ocean Engineering Chapter with help from the Singapore Section and OES was conducted 1-3 March 2013 and was very successful and enjoyable event.. It was conducted at the pool on the campus at the University of Singapore. Sixteen teams applied for the challenge and nine teams were selected and seven participated. The competition started with a qualification run followed by the competition. The AUV had to be pre-programmed to go under a bar, proceed to touch a ball and then surface inside a ring. The AUV was not permitted to touch the bottom or to surface during the run. A team from the far eastern Federal University in Vladivostok Russia was the winner of the competition and received a prize of 5,000 Singapore dollars. They were challenged by a couple of teams from Singapore. The Chapter intends to conduct the challenge again in 2014. Papers are invited for SYMPOL 2013, the International Symposium on Ocean Electronics, Oct. 23-25, 2013 in Cochin, India. There is also a student poster program. The template for papers, and deatils at: http://sympol.cusat.ac.in.

OTC Asia - Call for papers, due June 5th

In 2014, the inaugural Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia, branching out from the original event held annually in Houston. This event will be held from 25 – 28 March, before the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. OTC Asia will focus on concerns pertinent to the region and be an avenue to share lessons learnt, best practices and emerging technologies in offshore oil and gas activities towards meeting the challenges for Asia’s growth. Cross-border issues, enhanced oil recovery on the back of depleting resources, aging facilities, adapting international standards to local requirements, and high CO2 gas reservoirs are among the challenges, whilst pursuing the right technologies and the right expertise to realise greater value for the industry. Asia, being the centre for offshore rig and facilities construction, will be the perfect venue to present success and innovation in this field.
