$5,000 in College Scholarship Awards to Be Presented in Online Engineering Video Competition

IEEE-USA is challenging U.S. college students to create YouTube videos that reinforce for an 11-to-13-year-old "tween" audience "How Engineers Make a World of Difference." The organization is striving to tap the enthusiasm of U.S. college students to spark younger students' creativity and ingenuity, and to encourage tweeners' interest in learning about engineering. IEEE-USA also seeks to expand broader public understanding of engineering through the dissemination of these videos in its sixth-annual online video scholarship competition. See previous winners at http://www.youtube.com/ieeeusavideo, details on this competition at: http://www.ieeeusa.org/communications/releases/2012/091912.asp or contact Pender M. UT13 International Symposium on Underwater Technology 2013 - Call for papers

We are delighted to announce the International Symposium on Underwater Technology 2013 (UT13) to be held in Tokyo, from March 5 - 8, 2013. It is a highly successful series of symposium organized by the IEEE OES Japan Chapter, the University of Tokyo's Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), Earthquake Research Institute and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). The symposium will provide a thematic umbrella under which attendees will discuss the problems and potential long-term solutions that concern not only the Pacific Rim countries, but the world in general. As the meeting will be held after two years since the giant earthquake that struck North-Eastern Coast of Japan, we have decided to organize a special session for "Underwater Technology for Disaster Mitigation and Prevention." We hope this will provide an opportunity for the experts and researchers in the field of underwater technology to discuss the possible measures to counter the disasters caused by the earthquakes and tsunami.
