India OES Members busy organizing a symposium and a Chapter - December 4

The 11th International Symposium on Ocean Electronics will be held in Cochin, India on December 11-14, 2007. Held biennially, the theme of this year's symposium is Underwater Telemetry, Navigation and Control. The Chair of the Symposium is Dr. C.S. Sridhar of the Bangalore Institute of Technology and the Vice-Chair is Dr. P.R.S. Pillai, MIEEE of the Cochin University of Science and Technology. The Call for Papers was published in the IEEE OES Newsletter and other publications earlier this year. Papers received include authors from India, the USA and Russia. For more information please see:

On the other side of India in Chennai (Madras) Dr. M.A. Atmanand, MIEEE of the National Institute of Ocean Technology is collecting endorsements for a petition to form a national Chapter of OES in the IEEE India Council. National Chapters are able to build on the strength of the sponsoring society and geographic units to promote their goals both nationally and internationally. About only three more endorsements are required.
