RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares coral reef ecosystem geographic information systems applications design, modification and documentation. Creates and maintains efficient product distribution systems (interactive and static) via the World Wide Web. Interfaces with scientists, software systems engineers, web-developers, and end-users in a team approach to maximize utility of developed GIS products. Processes raw, georeferenced field-data into refined products for scientific analysis. Maintains geographic information systems and keeps databases up-to-date to ensure the system's integrity. Primary responsibility will involve processing of remotely sensed and in-situ data into coral reef ecosystem habitat maps and conducts data-mining of existing data layers or georeferenced data that complement habitat maps. Knowledge of cartography is a desirable qualification. Must be experienced in the use of GIS and image processing software packages such as ERDAS Imagine and ESRI ArcGIS. Particular emphasis will be placed on experience with server and web applications such as ArcGIS Server and ArcIMS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or marine science with a GIS minor, intermediate to advanced training in ArcGIS programs, and 2 years of experience in GIS programming or GIS database administration/support; OR associate's degree in computer science, information systems or engineering sciences and 4 years of experience in GIS programming or GIS database administration/support.

CITIZENSHIP and RESIDENCE: US Citizen or current US Resident. Must be eligible to work full time at the Living Oceans Foundation headquarters located at the METRO East Business Park in Landover , Maryland (METRO accessible). Relocation costs will not be considered.
