PAGE CHARGES
After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the corresponding author's company or institution will be requested to pay a charge of $110 per printed page to cover part of the cost of publication. Additional mandatory charges, billed separately, apply for printing color figures. Color charges are waived for figures appearing in color in the online IEEE archive and in grey-tone in the print version of the Journal.
Page charges for this Journal are not obligatory, nor is their payment a prerequisite for publication. However, authors who decline to pay page charges may expect delays in publication of their manuscripts based on the Journal's finances.
Authors who honor the page charge will receive 100 reprints without covers. Additional reprints may be ordered according to the fee schedule and instructions that will accompany the page proofs.
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
While preparing a manuscript to be submitted for publication in the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, please refer to the Tools for Authors available at http://www.ieee.org/portal/pages/pubs/transactions/information.html.
Careful manuscript preparation is the crucial part of the publication process. All contributors are advised to consult competent colleagues or specialized professional editing services for help in editing their manuscript BEFORE submitting it for review. The Editors will return poorly prepared or badly written manuscripts to the authors without review. Please contact the Journal's editorial office (joe-eic@oceanicengineering.com) for recommendations on professional editing services.
Style: Manuscripts must be written in English using a clear and concise style, free of colloquialisms. The Journal conforms to usage prescribed by the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th Edition (http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/about.html). The Editors reserve the right to adjust style to IEEE standards for uniformity.
Format and Length: Manuscripts submitted for review should be double-spaced in a single column, with a font size of 12. The length should be appropriate to the topic, there is no specific limit. For guidance, LaTeX and MS Word IEEE style files can be downloaded from: http://www.ieee.org/portal/pages/pubs/transactions/stylesheets.html . When using these templates, please change the 2-column formatting to a single column (this small step will save you considerable time).
Units: The Journal uses the International System of Units (SI units). Refer to the units list provided in Appendix I of the Information for Authors document available as a link in the Tools for Authors web page mentioned above.
Abbreviations and Acronyms: Abbreviations must be fully spelled out on first appearance in the abstract and in the text of the manuscript. Acronyms should be avoided whenever possible, otherwise they must be fully spelled out on first appearance.
Title: The manuscript must contain a title and a short running title.
Authorship: Each author or co-author of a manuscript bears full responsibility for its contents and availability for general dissemination. Affliations and full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors.
Abstract: Each article or technical communication must include an abstract that clearly indicates the purpose and content of the material submitted for publication. Each letter-to-the-editor or erratum must include an abstract no longer than 50 words.
Keywords: Three to five subject keywords suitable for indexing must be provided.
Text: The main text should be organized in consecutively numbered sections, and must contain at least an introduction, a development, and a conclusion. Tables, figures, equations and citations must be numbered consecutively in their order of appearance in the text. Tables and figures may be embedded in the text for ease of review, however separate files for tables and figures must be provided as well (see below). Please follow the manuscript style examples in http://www.ieee.org/portal/cms_docs/pubs/transactions/TRANS-JOUR.PDF, but keep the text to a single column.
Acknowledgments: An optional acknowledgments section may be included in the manuscript ahead of the references. Please note that sponsorship and financial support acknowledgments are placed in the byline appearing as an unnumbered footnote on the first page of the manuscript.
References: A numbered list of references must be provided at the end of the manuscript. The list should be arranged in the order of citation in the text, not in alphabetical order. Enclose each reference number in square brackets. References must be complete and conform to IEEE style as described in the Information for Authors guide.
Biographical Information: Short biographical notes and a recent photograph of the author(s) appear at the end of each peer-reviewed article or technical communication.
The biographical notes typically include: 1) name, degrees earned, field(s) of study, school, city, state; 2) significant employment dates, organizations, positions held, type of work, responsibilities, present position; and 3) professional society membership, offices, awards. The final printed size of an author photograph is fixed at exactly 1 inch wide by 1 1/4 inches long (6 picas x 7 1/2 picas).
Figures and Tables: For figure formatting instructions, please follow the Guidelines for Author Supplied Electronic Text and Graphics found at http://www.ieee.org/portal/cms_docs/pubs/transactions/eic-guide.pdf
All Figures and Tables must be submitted as separate items from the body of the manuscript in individual files without caption text. Accepted formats include: PostScript (PS), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), and Tagged Image File Format (TIFF). Figures should be named fig1.tif, fig2.eps, fig3.ps, table1.doc, etc. Do not give them descriptive names. Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere in the manuscript (e.g. in graphs).
Captions should be included as a separate numbered list at the end of the manuscript.
Galley Proofs: IEEE Publication Services notify corresponding authors via email when the galley proofs of their manuscripts are ready for download from the IEEE website. Authors are requested to review these galley proofs carefully and return any necessary correction to IEEE within 48 hours of notification. Lack of prompt response from the corresponding authors results in publication delay of their manuscripts.
